Technology stocks delivered a mixed session dominated by one standout trading update, with Volex lifting its full-year profit guidance on record first-half growth even as its shares fell sharply. Elsewhere, smaller companies across the sector reported steady operational progress, from a US Federal contract win at Intercede to new exchange deals at Beeks Financial Cloud and a platform soft-launch at GenIP, while Mindflair and Tekcapital both pointed to recognition for portfolio and licensee technology.

Volex guides FY2027 profit towards top end after record first half

Volex (AIM:VLX), the London-listed specialist manufacturer of critical power and data transmission products, said group revenue for the six months to 30 September is expected to be at least $710m, up at least 21% year-on-year on an organic constant-currency basis. The update builds on a run of upgrades through the year, with the board now guiding full-year underlying operating profit towards the top end of current market expectations of $145.9m to $153.3m, centred on a consensus figure of $150.4m. The shares fell 10.361% to 571.0p despite the upgrade, suggesting investors had priced in an even stronger outturn after the 28% constant-currency growth rate reported for the four months to July.

Growth has moderated as data-centre programmes that ramped sharply a year earlier annualise, with Volex pointing instead to sequential trends as the better guide, first-half revenue ran roughly 7% above the second half of the prior financial year. Complex Industrial Technology, last year's standout division with 56.3% organic growth, again expanded significantly on aerospace and defence demand, aided by customers pulling forward roughly $10m of revenue to build buffer stock ahead of a US manufacturing site consolidation due to complete by financial year-end. Data-centre revenue ran well ahead of the prior-year comparator but below the previous second half, as supply conditions that had temporarily inflated Volex's share of customer requirements normalised; management expects the next generation of higher-speed products to drive renewed growth as they ramp through FY2028. EV and electrification revenue grew strongly on a bigger share of the group's largest EV customer's requirements, Consumer Electricals returned to organic growth, and Medical delivered modest growth after absorbing Kepler SignalTek's patient-to-device offering following July's acquisition completion.

The scale of the move against an upgraded forecast underlines how far expectations had already run ahead of the business after a string of positive updates since June. With guidance now anchored towards the top of a tightened range and management flagging normalising data-centre supply dynamics alongside a clear FY2028 growth driver in next-generation higher-speed products, the update reads less as a disappointment and more as confirmation that the exceptional growth rates of the past year are settling into a more sustainable, still-expanding pattern across a diversified end-market base spanning aerospace, EV, medical and data infrastructure.

Intercede secures £1.04m US Federal purchase order

Intercede Group (AIM:IGP) told investors it has received a formal purchase order worth approximately £1.04m for professional services, including development work, supporting a large US Federal agency deployment. The order builds on the initial £0.52m Authority to Proceed disclosed in the identity and credential management software specialist's 8 October trading update, which had been pending the formal order now confirmed. Shares rose 6.107% to 139.0p on the news.

Intercede said at the time of its October update that delayed US Federal procurement demand had "materially" fed through into the first half of its 2027 financial year, with gross cash reaching approximately £23.4m at 30 September and the company carrying no debt. Unaudited interim results for the six months ended 30 September are scheduled for release on 24 November.

The confirmed purchase order removes uncertainty around timing that had clouded the earlier Authority to Proceed disclosure, converting pipeline into contracted revenue and reinforcing the narrative of pent-up Federal demand finally clearing. With a clean balance sheet and a near-term results date now set, the company has given the market concrete evidence that the delayed procurement cycle it flagged is translating into real orders rather than remaining stuck in process.

Beeks extends exchange contracts and plots AI network push

Beeks Financial Cloud Group (AIM:BKS), the cloud computing and connectivity provider for financial markets, secured approximately $4m of Exchange Cloud contract extensions in the first quarter of its 2027 financial year, adding to the previously announced Stock Exchange of Thailand win and taking its total Exchange Cloud customer count to eight. The shares slipped 2.17% to 180.0p despite the update. Beeks also sold its first Market Edge Intelligence contract in June, a five-year, $4.8m deal with one of the world's largest banks, since followed by further wins at a global technology customer and a North American exchange operator.

"We have made a strong start to FY27, in what is typically our quietest quarter, with around $4m of Exchange Cloud extensions showing how much scope there is to grow within the existing customer base," said Gordon McArthur, chief executive of Beeks. The company is preparing two further launches for its third quarter: Beeks Global Network, offering protected internet access and private connectivity between major financial centres, and an AI infrastructure partnership with OmniPhi, in which Beeks has taken a strategic minority stake, letting financial institutions run AI workloads on its infrastructure.

"Our focus is firmly on execution: turning that demand into signed contracts, growing our recurring revenue base and making the most of the investment we have put into our technology and infrastructure," McArthur added. The expansion into AI infrastructure and private connectivity marks a deliberate broadening beyond Beeks' core exchange-hosting business, positioning the company to capture demand from financial institutions seeking dedicated AI compute alongside their existing low-latency connectivity needs.

GenIP soft-launches Invention Evaluator platform ahead of December rollout

GenIP (AIM:GNIP) has soft-launched its Invention Evaluator platform, with customers in Chile, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom now trialling the product ahead of a planned commercial launch in December. The AIM-listed technology consultancy develops AI-driven intellectual-property services and software, helping research organisations and corporate clients evaluate and commercialise their innovations across a distribution footprint spanning more than 25 countries. Shares in GenIP traded at 2.65p.

The platform gives customers a single place to submit inventions, receive results, compare opportunities and manage a full portfolio, combining AI-assisted research with expert analyst review while keeping confidential technology disclosures out of AI systems. "We are seeing excellent progress with the customers that are currently trialling our new Invention Evaluator platform and the feedback provided is helping us to refine the model ahead of commercial launch planned for December," said Melissa Cruz, chief executive of GenIP.

The shift to a subscription model marks a departure from GenIP's existing project-based delivery approach. "By moving to a subscription-based model we will have greater capacity to produce more reports and the infrastructure to convert our existing pipeline into scalable revenue," said Harin Vaghela, chief executive. Greater automation is intended to cut delivery time and expand capacity, giving the company a path toward more predictable, recurring revenue than its historic engagement-led model allowed.

Mindflair portfolio companies win fresh industry recognition

Mindflair (AIM:MFAI) highlighted fresh recognition for companies within its investment portfolio, part of the AIM-listed group's strategy of backing early-stage technology businesses. Shares in Mindflair fell 15.385% to 0.275p on the day.

The recognition underscores the continued progress of Mindflair's underlying holdings even as the listed vehicle's own share price remains volatile, reflecting the gap that can open between portfolio-level developments and sentiment toward the parent investment company's stock.

Tekcapital's Innovative Eyewear wins TIME Best Inventions award

Tekcapital (AIM:TEK), the intellectual-property investment group, saw portfolio company Innovative Eyewear recognised with a TIME Best Inventions award, a high-profile endorsement for the smart-eyewear licensee. Tekcapital shares eased 2.672% to 2.55p.

The award adds external validation to one of Tekcapital's portfolio bets at a time when the parent company's own shares continue to trade well below levels that would reflect its underlying holdings' progress, highlighting the recurring disconnect between portfolio-level milestones and the listed vehicle's market valuation.
