Copper and gold dominated the mining news flow, with a transformational financing deal, a court ruling and a run of strong earnings from the majors setting the tone. African Pioneer's funding breakthrough in Namibia was the standout story, but Anglo American, Endeavour Mining and Elementis all posted robust first-half numbers, while a clutch of junior explorers advanced their copper and silver projects.
African Pioneer's Xinhai deal doubles shares

Meridian's smelter test produces high-purity blister copper
Meridian Mining (MNO) rose 3.95% to 79.0p after smelter testwork yielded high-purity blister copper from its project. Chief executive Gilbert Clark said "this is a strong negotiating position as we move into off-take discussions for a copper-gold mine that will go for over ten years", strengthening the company's hand as it lines up commercial partners.
Critical Mineral Resources hits fresh copper at Agadir Melloul
Critical Mineral Resources (CMRS) fell 3.68% to 1.782p even as it reported fresh copper intercepts from its Moroccan project. The latest drilling confirmed near-surface mineralisation at Agadir Melloul as the AIM-listed explorer targets a maiden resource estimate in October.

Ormonde-backed project yields saleable nickel concentrate
Ormonde Mining's Peak Nickel project at Portsoy in Scotland has produced marketable copper and nickel concentrates from metallurgical testwork using conventional processing methods. The result gives the nickel-copper-cobalt project a clearer route toward a viable processing flowsheet as it works to demonstrate the deposit's commercial potential.
