genedrive in line for NHS-wide MT‑RNR1 tender as England publishes premarket engagement

genedrive plc’s point‑of‑care MT‑RNR1 test is now explicitly scoped in NHS England’s market engagement notice, which signals a planned tender publication on 1 January 2027 and a go‑live target of 1 July 2027.

genedrive (LSE:GDR) is in line to bid for a potential NHS‑wide rollout of its Genedrive® MT‑RNR1 kit after NHS England published a preliminary market engagement notice under the Procurement Act 2023 to shape a national commercial strategy for rapid neonatal MT‑RNR1 testing.

The kit already forms part of a NIHR‑ and OLS‑funded real‑world programme (PALOH‑UK) running in 14 NICUs across the four UK nations and — the company says — has been used by approximately 900 neonatal nurses on over 10,000 babies, enabling more than 30 infants to avoid aminoglycoside‑induced hearing loss. Genedrive reports the test holds a conditional NICE recommendation while further evidence is gathered.

" We welcome the communication of this premarket engagement by NHS England and the clarity it provides with respect to intended future commitment at a national level. To date, since introduction, our rapid MT‑RNR1 test has been used as part of routine clinical practice by approximately 900 neonatal nurses for over 10,000 babies admitted to NICUs, enabling more than 30 to avoid lifelong hearing loss as a result of aminoglycoside antibiotic exposure." Dr Gino Miele, CEO of genedrive, said.

PALOH‑UK is due to complete in July 2026 with a subsequent NICE review around July 2027. NHS England’s notice anticipates a tender notice on 1 January 2027 and a 1 July 2027 go‑live, subject to the outcome of NICE guidance.
