Arkadian Strategic Metals (AIM:AKN), the strategic metals and gold-focused exploration and development company, has completed access works at its 100%-owned Clogau-St David's Gold Mine in north Wales.
The company installed ladders and intermediate platforms spanning an approximately 12-metre vertical section, creating a staged route from the Tyn y Cornel Level into the Jack Williams stope.
The stope marks the westernmost historically mined section of the Main Lode, the quartz-vein structure that produced most of Clogau's historic gold output.
Arkadian first flagged the area as an exploration target after its 2020 drilling programme, with follow-up 2021 drilling and three-dimensional modelling identifying the projected Jack Williams Lode and a separate New Branch Lode structure within the wider Main Lode System Extension.
Rather than pursuing the roughly 48-metre crosscut development concept outlined in 2021, the company used existing workings to reach the target more directly, ahead of any decision on further underground development.
The access will allow geological mapping and systematic sampling to assess whether the Main Vein continues westward and whether the historic stope area merits additional exploration.
Findings will feed into an ongoing mine-wide mineralogical review that also covers the Lower Llechfraith Level 5 development, where recent work exposed fresh geology but no economic gold-bearing material to date.
"The completion of the new access route to the Jack Williams stope... enables us to turn our attention to a historically important part of the Main Lode," said George Frangeskides, Arkadian's executive chairman.
Inspection and sampling work at Jack Williams is scheduled to begin in early September.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
Arkadian has completed a 12-metre access route to the Jack Williams stope at its Clogau-St David's gold mine in Wales, using existing workings rather than the 48-metre crosscut development outlined in 2021. Inspection and sampling begin in early September to assess whether the historically productive Main Lode continues westward and whether the stope warrants further exploration—a direct, lower-cost approach to testing a target identified in 2020–2021 drilling.
The access completion is a tactical step forward in exploration, but the outcome remains uncertain: the company is only now beginning geological mapping and sampling to determine whether the target merits development. Results will feed into a mine-wide mineralogical review that has so far found no economic gold-bearing material at the Lower Llechfraith Level 5.
