Melrose Industries said on Tuesday that GKN Aerospace's Garden Grove facility in California is targeting 28 September to resume full manufacturing operations, following an incident that prompted an evacuation order in May.
The London-listed aerospace and automotive components group will launch a claims programme worth up to $100 million for residents and businesses affected by the evacuation, covering hotel stays, meals, transportation, lost wages and loss of use.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office has closed its criminal investigation and will not bring charges, though claims from emergency services agencies and potential civil enforcement penalties will be handled separately.
The claims programme is expected to take effect within weeks and remain open into 2027.
GKN has permanently decommissioned the tank involved in the incident and made what Melrose called substantial safety investments at the site.
The company expects a phased return to full capacity and customer deliveries through the fourth quarter.
Melrose flagged at its half-year results that its associated insurance position remains under review.
