Talon Resources (AIM: TAR), the North American gold exploration company, said its maiden diamond drilling campaign has commenced at the Eagle Lake gold project in Ontario, Canada.

The first hole is being drilled at East Fornieri Bay, the programme's top-priority target, where earlier channel sampling returned 4.80m at 4.47 g/t gold, including 1m at 19.10 g/t, and 1.85m at 7.17 g/t, including 0.50m at 24.40 g/t.

The fully funded programme comprises 11 diamond drill holes totalling 1,375 metres across five pads at four target areas: East Fornieri Bay, West Fornieri Bay, Cedar Trench and Moss Knoll.

Critical Discoveries is managing the programme, with Rodren Drilling as the drilling contractor, and assay results are expected in batches following completion.

Chief executive Alex King said the drill is turning ahead of schedule, targeting some of the strongest gold prospects identified in the Wabigoon Subprovince through Talon's own work and MINML's PRISM machine learning platform, which has been used to refine target selection.

King noted that MINML's analysis places 10 of the 16 cells covering the licence in the top 1% nationally for gold, ranking Eagle Lake ahead of 62% of Canada's 242 past and present gold producers scored on the same basis.

"The objective of this programme is to provide further physical support of this high-grade gold mineralisation," King said, adding that results will be presented through the remaining weeks of the third quarter and into the fourth.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Talon Resources has started drilling at Eagle Lake after bringing forward the programme timing from Q4 2026 to early September, testing high-grade surface samples (up to 24.40 g/t gold) across four target areas with an 11-hole, 1,375-metre campaign. The company is fully funded and ahead of schedule, with assay results expected in batches through Q3 and Q4—a concrete step from exploration mapping into the subsurface testing that can validate or refute the project's discovery potential.

Investment case

Talon is now executing the core value inflection for an early-stage explorer: converting surface anomalies into drill-supported mineral inventory. Results over the next 8–12 weeks will determine whether Eagle Lake's high-grade channel samples reflect a genuine orogenic system or isolated surface enrichment; a material discovery would justify the company's AIM listing and cash deployment, while barren or low-grade holes would reset expectations sharply.
