Talon Resources (AIM:TAR), the North American gold exploration company, said planning and site preparation are complete ahead of its maiden diamond drilling programme at the Eagle Lake gold project in Ontario, Canada.

Rig mobilisation is expected within two weeks, with drilling due to start in the first half of September.

The programme has been brought forward from the fourth quarter and expanded from an initial 1,000m to 1,375m, following strong Phase 1 channel sampling results disclosed on 22 July, including 4.80m at 4.47 g/t gold at East Fornieri Bay and 1.85m at 7.17 g/t gold at the same target.

Eleven holes across five pads will test four priority targets: East Fornieri Bay (four holes), West Fornieri Bay (two holes), Cedar Trench (four holes) and Moss Knoll (one hole).

Talon worked with MINML, applying its PRISM machine-learning platform to refine target selection using Phase 1 results and historical data alongside airborne surveys and geological mapping.

All four target areas rank in the top 1.5% of the model's prospectivity scoring, with Cedar Trench the highest at the 99.9th percentile.

At West Fornieri Bay, hole EL26-05 will twin historical hole R-85-12, which intercepted 3.05m at 2.05 g/t gold in two separate zones, providing modern data to validate the historic assays.

"The programme is fully funded and permitted, site preparation is underway, and we expect to be drilling in early September with assays to follow after programme completion," said chief executive Alex King.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Talon Resources is mobilising its maiden diamond drill rig within two weeks at Eagle Lake, with an expanded 1,375m programme across eleven holes now targeting four priority zones. The acceleration and expansion from the original plan—brought forward from Q4 and increased from 1,000m—follows strong Phase 1 channel sampling in July (4.80m at 4.47 g/t gold at East Fornieri Bay, 1.85m at 7.17 g/t gold at the same target), and the company has applied machine-learning prospectivity modelling to refine target selection, with Cedar Trench scoring at the 99.9th percentile.

Investment case

This is the first material test of Eagle Lake's depth potential; the company's flagship asset has seen only shallow historical drilling (max 155m) and surface samples up to 204 g/t Au, leaving the subsurface largely unexplored. The programme is fully funded from existing cash, removing near-term financing risk for this phase, though any extended campaign would require additional capital.
