Agronomics (AIM:ANIC) portfolio company Bond Pet Foods is moving forward, after it received a Letter of No Objection from the US Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine, for its Lamb Protein Yeast ingredient that will be used in dog food.

It follows a six‑month feeding study run, and, to the company's knowledge, is the first animal protein produced via precision fermentation to complete the FDA's GRAS review for healthy adult dogs.

"This is a significant regulatory milestone for Bond and an important step towards commercialisation," said Jim Mellon, Executive Chair of Agronomics.

Feeding studies were also conducted in cats, and the company is preparing further submissions to the FDA to support feline use.

Lamb Protein Yeast has a complete amino acid profile with nutritional characteristics comparable to conventional lamb protein, the company said, adding that the fermentation operation has already achieved commercial‑scale production, delivering more than 25 metric tons of protein for formulation and testing.

With regulatory status for canine use secured, Agronomics noted that the venture moves into US commercialisation alongside the filings needed to extend approval to cats.
