Sunrise Resources targets Carlin-type gold at Nevada's Newark project

It is seeking a joint venture partner to drill deeper at its Newark gold project after historical holes ended in mineralisation.

Sunrise Resources (AIM:SRES), the AIM-listed exploration company, published a project summary for its 100%-owned Newark Gold Project in Nevada, a Carlin-type gold target the company says has been underexplored despite past drilling success.

Newark sits at the junction of the Battle Mountain-Eureka and Alligator Ridge trends, two belts hosting multi-million-ounce deposits including the Carlin Complex, with 31.9 million ounces in reserves and resources, and Cortez Complex, with 36.7 million ounces.

Freeport McMoRan drilled sixteen shallow reverse circulation holes at Newark in 1986 and 1987, with the best result, hole NWK-008, cutting 47 metres at 0.14 grammes per tonne gold from 75 metres to the end of the hole at 122 metres, terminating in mineralisation.

Surface sampling has since confirmed anomalous gold alongside arsenic, antimony, thallium and barium, the classic indicator elements of Carlin-type systems, along a silicified structure and favourable anticline.

The update follows Sunrise's 14 July strategic pivot to focus on its precious and base metals portfolio, under which it plans further announcements on projects with strong past results but recent exploration spend.

"Previous drilling was relatively shallow and failed to test the most prospective geological units that host gold in this area," said executive chairman Patrick Cheetham, adding that the company's objective is "to secure a Joint Venture partner to advance deeper drilling."

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Sunrise Resources has published a summary of its Newark gold project in Nevada, highlighting 1986–87 drilling by Freeport McMoRan that ended in mineralisation and surface sampling confirming Carlin-type indicator elements. The company is now seeking a joint venture partner to fund deeper drilling, positioning Newark as an underexplored target within a prolific gold belt. This follows the company's 14 July strategic pivot to focus on precious and base metals projects with strong historical results but limited recent spend.

Investment case

Newark represents an early-stage exploration opportunity with no recent drilling and no company-funded work disclosed; the JV-seeking posture signals capital constraints and shifts execution risk to finding a partner willing to fund the next phase. The project's merit rests entirely on 40-year-old shallow drilling and surface sampling—typical for exploration-stage plays, but material de-risking will require deeper drilling results.
