The Smarter Web Company (LSE:SWC) has promoted Oliver Hewett to chief financial officer with immediate effect.

Hewett had served as Group Financial Controller since his appointment on 27 April and will join the company's senior leadership team but will not be appointed to the board, continuing to report to chief executive officer Andrew Webley.

He brings almost two decades of financial experience across institutional investment banking and SME leadership, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, began his banking career in commodities finance at Barclays Capital and Bank of America Merrill Lynch and worked at NatWest Markets supporting the financial execution of RBS's £29bn Capital Resolution programme.

Most recently he served as CFO and board director at two growing UK SMEs where he led several acquisitions and supported revenue growth and operational scale-up.

As CFO Hewett will oversee the group's financial strategy, planning and reporting, regulatory compliance and corporate governance, manage third‑party provider contracts and support the board and CEO on strategic and corporate finance while leading the finance function.

He will continue to work alongside Mario Visconti, Head of Projects, as the company progresses its acquisition strategy.

"His combination of institutional finance experience, a hands-on CFO track record and personal Bitcoin conviction makes him the ideal person to lead the finance function," said Andrew Webley, CEO.
