Breedon Group (LSE:BREE), the vertically-integrated construction materials group, has appointed James Brotherton as its next Group CEO with effect from 1 January 2027.

He succeeds Rob Wood, who joined Breedon as Group Finance Director in 2014, became CEO in 2021, and has decided to retire after twelve years with the company.

The appointment follows a structured succession process led by the Nominations Committee with support from independent advisers, and a search for Brotherton's replacement as CFO is now underway.

Wood will step down from the Board and retire as an executive director on 31 December, but will remain an employee to support an orderly transition until his notice period expires on 30 September 2027.

"James combines a deep understanding of Breedon, its people and its end markets with strong strategic and commercial judgement," said Amit Bhatia, Group Chair, adding that Wood "leaves Breedon in an excellent position to take advantage of the many opportunities that lie ahead."

Brotherton has been Breedon's CFO since April 2021 and was previously CFO of Tyman from 2010 to 2019; he described the company as having "high-quality and irreplaceable assets, strong market positions and talented colleagues," pointing to "attractive growth potential in the US and Ireland, and a material recovery opportunity in GB."
