Exploration financing and production milestones dominated the mining calendar, with a clutch of junior explorers securing fresh capital to advance drill programmes while Iofina grappled with a production shortfall even as it brought a landmark new plant online. Anglo Asian Mining continued its copper ramp-up, while smaller names from Zambia to Namibia reported encouraging early-stage drilling results.
Richmond Hill raises funds for Sakoose drilling
Richmond Hill Resources (AIM:RHR) has raised gross proceeds of £285,010 through a placing of 25.91m new shares at 1.1p each, arranged through broker Clear Capital, as the gold explorer pushes toward a long-awaited drill campaign at its Martello Gold Project near Dryden in north-western Ontario. The shares fell 4.0% to 1.2p on the news, even as the raise clears a path to a maiden drilling programme the company has been building toward for months.
The funds will support general working capital and the planned diamond drilling at the Sakoose target, where a nine-hole, roughly 1,400-metre programme is designed to test the down-plunge extension of a historic high-grade shoot and an eastern structural intersection. Richmond Hill said the programme is fully permitted, with mobilisation now expected to see drilling begin by 30 November, subject to rig availability and ground conditions. Alongside the raise, the company disclosed it has staked a further 41 claims at nominal cost, expanding the Martello project to 202 claims covering approximately 6,750 hectares, and confirmed its issued share capital will stand at 761.16m shares of 0.1p each following admission of the new stock.
The placing follows a string of encouraging exploration updates at Martello, including surface sampling at Sakoose that returned assays of up to 25.9g/t gold from an outcrop between two historic stope shafts, and the identification of a new high-grade target at New Church Lake.
The financing, while modest in scale, is the practical unlock the market had been waiting for: a fully permitted target with historic high-grade intercepts is of little use to shareholders without the cash to put a rig on it. With mobilisation now dated and claims expanded around the discovery zone, Richmond Hill has converted a promising geological story into a funded, near-term catalyst, shifting the investment case from one of permitting risk to one of drill-result anticipation heading into year-end.
Iofina trims H2 output guidance after Q3 production shortfall
Iofina (AIM:IOF) said crystalline iodine production fell short of expectations in the third quarter, prompting the specialty chemicals manufacturer to lower its full second-half guidance, with shares dropping 7.3% to 51.0p. The Iofina Resources unit produced 205.2 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine in the quarter, down from 215.8 tonnes a year earlier, a shortfall the company attributed to lower-than-expected water volumes at its plants, maintenance work, and delays completing the IO#11 pipeline and commissioning IO#12.
Suppliers in Iofina's central Oklahoma core area had to temporarily shut certain disposal wells to carry out upgrades, squeezing the water volumes that feed crystalline iodine production. The company said flows have since begun improving as volumes work back toward previous levels, but as a result it now expects second-half production of 440 to 455 tonnes, down from the 460 to 485 tonnes previously guided, with the outcome still contingent on water supply recovery.
"Whilst production in the Period was lower than anticipated, we are encouraged by the positive adjustments made by our water supply partners and continue to work to restore volumes to previous levels," said Tom Becker, president of Iofina. The guidance cut lands the same day as news of a major new plant commissioning, underscoring that Iofina's near-term operational hiccups sit alongside a genuine capacity expansion story, the market's sharp reaction suggests investors are weighting the shortfall more heavily than the growth pipeline for now.
Panther Metals closes £2.22m Canadian flow-through placing
Panther Metals (LSE:PALM) has closed the Canadian flow-through share offering it announced on 9 October, raising gross proceeds of £2.22m (CAD$4.16m) through the issue of 980,398 units at CAD$4.24 (£2.26) each. Shares in the Canadian-focused explorer slipped 1.4% to 177.5p despite the funding close. Each unit comprises one ordinary share and half a warrant, with each whole warrant exercisable at £2.67 for 36 months.
Following closing, broker SI Capital facilitated a secondary sale of the units to select institutional investors through the UK block trade structure set out in the original announcement. The proceeds will primarily fund continuation of the Phase 1 diamond drilling programme at the Wishbone VMS prospect on the Obonga Project in northwest Ontario into 2027, building on visual sulphide intersections already reported from the first two Wishbone holes, including portable X-ray fluorescence readings confirming chalcopyrite mineralisation grading 8.34% copper.
Securing Canadian flow-through capital at a premium to recent market pricing gives Panther a funded runway through a second year of drilling at Wishbone, reducing the dilution risk that typically weighs on explorers mid-campaign. With early copper grades already validated by portable XRF, the company now has the balance sheet to chase down-hole confirmation through assay results rather than pausing for further fundraising.
Iofina commissions first commercial iodine plant in Permian Basin
Iofina also announced on Friday that its IO#12 IOsorb® plant in the Permian Basin has been commissioned, with brine water now flowing through the system ahead of a production ramp-up. The plant is undergoing hydrotesting, with output expected to begin and build over the coming weeks, arriving the same day as the company's downgraded second-half guidance from its existing Oklahoma operations.
IO#12 is Iofina's largest-capacity plant to date and the first commercial-scale iodine production facility in the Permian Basin, built in partnership with Western Midstream Partners, which is supplying up to 50,000 barrels a day of produced water. The company is targeting annual production of between 170 and 220 metric tonnes of crystalline iodine from the plant, building on a record first half in which crystalline iodine production across its existing eight Oklahoma plants rose 29% to 393.3 tonnes, with revenue up 7% to $31.3m and adjusted EBITDA more than doubling to $6.6m. "When we announced this partnership, we said solving the Permian's produced water challenge would take an all-of-the-above approach. Today, we're putting that approach into action," said Oscar K. Brown, president of Western Midstream.
The Permian Basin entry marks a structural expansion of Iofina's production base beyond its long-standing Oklahoma core, diversifying supply risk even as near-term Oklahoma water constraints bite. With IO#13 and IO#14 already targeted for completion by the first half of 2027 as the company pursues its 2,000-tonne production goal, IO#12's commissioning signals management's confidence in outgrowing the current quarter's shortfall rather than retrenching.
Anglo Asian Mining lifts copper output again as Demirli ramp-up continues
ANGLO ASIAN MINING (AIM:AAZ) shares rose 1.2% to 420.0p as the Azerbaijan-focused producer continued to report rising copper volumes from its Demirli operation, extending a ramp-up trend that has underpinned the stock's resilience this year.
The continued output growth at Demirli reinforces Anglo Asian's positioning as one of the sector's steadier operational stories, with copper production momentum offering a counterweight to the volatility seen elsewhere among smaller explorers this week.
ECR Minerals advances Maddens decline as processing plant comes online
Ecr Minerals (AIM:ECR) shares fell 5.3% to 0.135p as the gold explorer pressed ahead with development of the Maddens decline alongside progress in bringing its processing plant online.
The simultaneous advance of underground development and processing infrastructure marks a step toward production readiness for ECR, though the share price move suggests the market is withholding full credit until throughput and recovery figures are confirmed.
Shuka Minerals hits exceptional zinc grades at newly discovered Kabwe target
Shuka Minerals (AIM:SKA) reported exceptional zinc grades from a newly discovered target at its Kabwe project in Zambia, a find that adds a fresh exploration angle to the company's existing portfolio. Shares dipped 2.9% to 3.3p despite the result.
The discovery extends Shuka's exploration footprint at Kabwe beyond previously known mineralisation, giving the company an additional target to define ahead of any resource work, though the market's muted reaction points to investors awaiting follow-up assay confirmation before re-rating the stock.
African Pioneer starts drilling at Ongombo copper project
African Pioneer (LSE:AFP) has started drilling at its Ongombo copper project, marking the beginning of field testing for the Namibian-focused explorer. Shares slipped 2.7% to 1.8p as the programme got under way.
The commencement of drilling moves African Pioneer from target definition into the results phase at Ongombo, with the share price reaction reflecting a market now waiting on assays rather than reacting to the drilling decision itself.
Gunsynd confirms receipt of meeting requisition notice
Gunsynd (AIM:GUN), trading at 0.095p, confirmed it has received a requisition notice calling for a general meeting, a corporate governance development that puts shareholder-driven resolutions on the table for the investment company.
The requisition sets up a formal shareholder vote process, with Gunsynd required to respond within statutory timeframes to convene the requested meeting.
