Takeover speculation dominated the mining sector on Tuesday, with Kenmare Resources confirming it had received an approach from Abu Dhabi-backed International Resources Holdings as the titanium minerals producer wrestles with operational setbacks in Mozambique.
Elsewhere, Amaroq Minerals hit a quarterly gold target early ahead of its FTSE 250 entry, Capital pushed into Australian drilling with an acquisition and upgraded guidance, and a cluster of exploration updates spanned lithium, copper, silver and uranium across Focus Xplore, Ajax Resources, Andrada Mining, East Star Resources, Alien Metals, CleanTech Lithium and Bluebird Mining Ventures.
Kenmare confirms takeover approach from Abu Dhabi's IRH
Kenmare Resources (LSE:KMR) confirmed it has received a non-binding proposal from International Resources Holdings RSC regarding a possible cash offer, sending the shares up 24% to 225.0p. The Mozambique-focused titanium minerals producer said the statement follows press speculation and that discussions with IRH remain ongoing, though it gave no indication of price or terms and cautioned there is no certainty a firm offer will materialise. IRH has until 5pm on 17 November to announce a firm intention to bid or walk away.
The approach lands as Kenmare works through a difficult operational stretch at its Moma mineral sands operation. The company cut 2026 ilmenite production guidance to around 800,000 tonnes in July, down from "more than 800,000 tonnes," after commissioning problems at Wet Concentrator Plant A and falling ore grades cut heavy mineral concentrate output by 37% year-on-year in the second quarter. Net debt climbed to $175.7m at the end of the first half from $158.8m at the end of 2025, with cash down to $31m, prompting a $30m upsize to its revolving credit facility and covenant adjustments for extra headroom. Average selling prices fell 26% year-on-year to $242 a tonne in the first half, with ilmenite down 29% to $203 a tonne, weakness management has pinned largely on elevated Chinese supply rather than softening demand.
The timing is notable: an approach surfacing just as a company is battling plant commissioning problems, falling grades and rising debt suggests a bidder willing to look through near-term operational noise to the long-run value of Moma's resource base. It also puts pressure on Kenmare's board to demonstrate that any eventual offer reflects more than a distressed valuation, given the stock's 24% jump shows the market is already pricing in meaningful takeover premium.
What happens next hinges on the 17 November deadline. If IRH confirms a firm intention to bid, Kenmare's 89.23m shares in issue become the battleground for negotiating price against a balance sheet under strain; if IRH walks away, the stock's gains could prove short-lived, leaving the operational recovery at Moma as the only remaining catalyst.
Focus Xplore acquires Canadian gold portfolio and raises funds
Focus Xplore (AIM:FOX) has signed a binding sale and purchase agreement to acquire Nova Aurum Exploration and 1597320 BC, vehicles holding five gold exploration properties in Canada, converting heads of terms first announced on 7 September into a completed deal. The shares fell 15.6% to 0.019p despite the move, which carries an aggregate consideration of £296,000.
Sellers will receive £75,000 in cash and 802.78m new shares, representing around 10% of Focus Xplore's enlarged share capital, as initial consideration, with a further 422.51m shares to follow if any one of three milestones is met: completion of a phase-one exploration programme across at least two properties, identification of at least one drill target, or the start of a drill programme anywhere in the portfolio. Alongside the acquisition, the company has received conversion notices tied to its funding arrangements.
The heavy dilution embedded in the deal structure, around 10% of the enlarged share capital handed over upfront with more to come on milestone delivery, explains the negative share reaction even as the company expands its exploration footprint. The milestone-linked consideration at least ties further dilution to tangible progress rather than frontloading the full cost of the acquisition.
Ajax lifts Reveille stake after buying out former director's holding
Ajax Resources (AQSE:AJAX) has increased its stake in Reveille Resources, buying 2m shares and 2m warrants from Santa Devota, a vehicle wholly owned by Reveille's former non-executive director Antonio Barani, for £102,500. The shares rose 17.7% to 6.488p as the deal took Ajax's holding to 14m Reveille shares, or 17.52% of its issued share capital, cementing Ajax's position as Reveille's second-largest shareholder.
Reveille is a UK uranium exploration company focused on Italy's largest uranium deposits, the Novazza and Val Vedello projects in Lombardy, both progressing through Italy's environmental impact assessment process; its shares were admitted to the Aquis Growth Market on 7 July. Ajax first moved on the Lombardy projects in April, agreeing to invest £200,000 for a majority stake in Reveille across two tranches alongside a parallel £200,000 subscription from Zenith Energy, funding earmarked for Aquis admission and a restart of modern evaluation work.
Buying out a departing director's stake rather than issuing fresh shares keeps Ajax's exposure to Reveille concentrated without further diluting other holders, reinforcing its position as the uranium explorer approaches key regulatory milestones in Lombardy.
Amaroq hits quarterly gold target early as FTSE 250 entry nears
Amaroq (LSE:AMRQ) told investors that gold production at its Nalunaq mine in southern Greenland reached approximately 12,000 ounces in the third quarter, hitting a target originally guided for the fourth quarter a full quarter early. The shares rose 5.5% to 124.0p. The Greenland-focused mine developer produced around 21,000 ounces over the first nine months of the year and reiterated full-year guidance of 25,000 to 35,000 ounces.
FTSE Russell will add Amaroq to the FTSE 250 Index from market open on 8 October, index inclusion that arrives alongside operational momentum rather than independently of it. Amaroq commissioned the flotation recovery circuit at Nalunaq's Phase 2 processing plant earlier in the summer, which the company credits with lifting recoveries and supporting the acceleration. "Achieving our goal of 12koz of gold production, originally guided for Q4 2026, a quarter earlier, is a testament to the work and effort our teams have put in place and the quality of the resource base at Nalunaq," said Eldur Olafsson, chief executive of Amaroq.
Beating its own guidance by a full quarter, just as passive index funds prepare to buy in on FTSE 250 inclusion, gives Amaroq a rare combination of operational proof points and a structural demand tailwind for the stock at the same moment.
Capital enters Australia with drilling acquisition and lifts guidance
Capital Di (LSE:CAPD) shares climbed 4.2% to 124.0p as the drilling services group expanded into Australia through an acquisition and raised its guidance. The move marks a geographic diversification for a company whose business has historically been concentrated on African mining contracts.
Chief executive Jamie Boyton's push into a new region, backed by an upgraded outlook, signals management's confidence that demand for contract drilling services extends beyond its traditional footprint, broadening the revenue base ahead of what the guidance upgrade suggests is a stronger year than previously expected.
Andrada reports high-grade lithium hits in fifth Lithium Ridge batch
Andrada Mining (AIM:ATM) reported high-grade lithium intersections from the fifth batch of assay results at its Lithium Ridge project, with shares rising 5.6% to 6.95p. The results add to a run of positive drilling updates from the Namibian-focused tin and lithium miner under chief executive Anthony Viljoen.
Successive high-grade batches build the resource case at Lithium Ridge incrementally, giving Andrada a growing body of drill evidence to support future resource estimates as it works to position the project within its wider Namibian portfolio.
East Star starts drilling at Rulikha copper project
East Star Resources (AIM:EST) has commenced drilling at its Rulikha copper project, with shares dipping 2.0% to 9.8p despite the start of field activity. Chief executive Alex Walker's team now moves into the assay-waiting phase that typically follows a maiden drill campaign.
The drilling start converts East Star from an exploration story on paper into one generating fresh subsurface data, with results from Rulikha set to become the next catalyst for a stock that has traded without major news flow in recent sessions.
Alien Metals partner clears heritage hurdle for Munni Munni drilling
Alien Metals (AIM:UFO) shares were unmoved at 0.075p after its joint venture partner cleared a heritage survey requirement, paving the way for drilling to proceed at the Munni Munni project in Western Australia. Chief executive Vince Fayad's company holds an interest in the project alongside its partner.
Clearing heritage approval removes a regulatory gating item that commonly delays drill campaigns in Western Australia, meaning the project can now move toward a drill programme without the permitting overhang that had been outstanding.
CleanTech Lithium pilot produces battery-grade lithium carbonate at Laguna Verde
CleanTech Lithium (AIM:CTL) said its pilot plant at the Laguna Verde project in Chile has produced battery-grade lithium carbonate, with shares down slightly at 7.08p. Chief executive Ignacio Mehech's team has been working to prove out the direct lithium extraction process at the site.
Producing battery-grade output at pilot scale is a key technical validation step for the project's direct extraction method, giving the company a proof point to support discussions with potential offtake partners and financiers.
Alien Metals partner launches regional hunt for Elizabeth Hill silver repeats
Alien Metals (AIM:UFO) said its joint venture partner has launched a regional exploration programme seeking repeat silver mineralisation around the Elizabeth Hill project, alongside the separate heritage clearance news at Munni Munni. The shares held at 0.075p.
Targeting repeat silver zones across the wider district extends the exploration thesis beyond the immediate Elizabeth Hill footprint, giving Alien Metals a second regional growth angle alongside its Munni Munni drilling plans.
Bluebird Mining Ventures details plans in Mexico as projects advance
Bluebird Mining Ventures set out updated plans for its Mexico projects, with shares trading at 0.045p. The update covers progress across the company's portfolio as it works toward advancing its development pipeline.
Laying out a clearer roadmap for the Mexico assets gives shareholders visibility on near-term milestones, a step that matters for a company whose project pipeline has otherwise generated newsflow.
Reveille Resources appoints Mike Pompeo as board chairman
Reveille Resources appointed the Hon. Michael R. Pompeo as chairman of its board, adding a high-profile figure to the uranium explorer's leadership as it advances the Novazza and Val Vedello projects in Lombardy through Italy's environmental assessment process.
A chairman with Pompeo's international profile brings geopolitical and governmental credibility to a company navigating sensitive regulatory approvals for uranium projects in Europe, potentially easing engagement with Italian authorities as the assessments progress.
