Gold and critical-minerals developers dominated Monday's small-cap mining news, led by a fresh equity raise at ECR Minerals aimed squarely at production at its Australian project. Elsewhere, drone technology, drilling results and processing milestones stretched from Botswana's Kalahari Copper Belt to Zambia's Copperbelt, while Caledonia Mining's second-quarter numbers showed the impact of a stronger gold price on a Zimbabwean producer's balance sheet.

ECR Minerals raises capital to push Maddens gold toward production

Ecr Minerals (AIM:ECR) has conditionally raised £636,250 before expenses through a placing with existing shareholders and other investors, issuing 363.57m new shares at 0.175p each, a 12.5% discount to the prior closing price. The shares fell 10% to 0.18p on the announcement, but the raise is squarely aimed at advancing the company's flagship Maddens Gold Project in Northern Queensland, Australia, where ECR holds a 50% interest.

Most of the net proceeds will fund continued development of the Maddens Underground Mine, processing of ore already stockpiled on the run-of-mine pad, and trial alluvial mining within the Brothers Mining Lease using equipment redeployed from the company's Raglan operations. A further tranche will support exploration following a completed LiDAR survey that has identified potential extensions of the Maddens mineralised system toward the historic Sisters Mine, alongside a newly discovered mineralised quartz vein containing visible gold.

"there is every reason to be optimistic about how this could be transformational for ECR," said Nick Tulloch, chairman of ECR Minerals.

The raise dilutes existing holders meaningfully given the scale of new shares issued relative to the market's modest 10% pullback, but it buys ECR the working capital to move from stockpiled ore toward actual production later this year, a threshold few AIM-listed gold explorers of this size have crossed. With no systematic exploration yet conducted across the wider tenement, and historical grades at Maddens reaching as high as 25g/tonne, the company is betting that near-term cash flow from processing, rather than further exploration alone, will be the catalyst that re-rates the stock.

Fulcrum secures C$560,000 in Terra North shares under uranium option deal

Fulcrum Metals (AIM:FMET) has completed a second amendment to its purchase option agreement with Terra Balcanica Resources and Terra North Resources over its Saskatchewan uranium portfolio, with shares down slightly at 7.43p. The company, which otherwise focuses on cyanide-free technology for recovering metals from mine waste, will receive 5.6m Terra North common shares at a deemed price of C$0.10 each, satisfying C$560,000 of the option's second-anniversary consideration.

That comes on top of C$75,000 in cash and 5.8m Terra Balcanica shares already received under the option, which grants Terra North the right to acquire 100% of Fulcrum's Charlot-Neely, Fontaine Lake, Snowbird and South Pendleton uranium licences across roughly 591 square kilometres of northern Saskatchewan. A separate C$75,000 cash payment due on the second anniversary has been deferred to the earlier of a Terra North going-public transaction or 31 October.

"This amendment secures C$560,000 of additional deemed equity consideration for Fulcrum and preserves exposure to a further C$2.125 million of potential cash and equity consideration, together with a retained 1% NSR royalty upon exercise of the option," said Ryan, chief executive of Fulcrum Metals. The structure lets Fulcrum bank equity value in Terra North without giving up its optionality, effectively turning a non-core uranium package into a running source of deemed consideration while the company's core waste-recovery technology remains its primary focus.

Aterian starts AI-guided drone survey in Botswana copper belt

Aterian (LSE:ATN) has commenced a high-resolution drone magnetic survey over its Botswana copper licences in the Kalahari Copper Belt, with shares steady at 27.5p. The survey targets the company's two highest-priority licences, PL0199/2025 and PL0157/2024, marking the first stage of a systematic programme designed to generate drill targets across its Botswana portfolio.

The data will feed into an AI-driven targeting platform run by Lithosquare, Aterian's exploration technology partner since earlier this year, which combines the magnetic survey with geological, structural and satellite datasets to rank prospects. Drone magnetics deliver far higher spatial resolution than conventional airborne surveys, allowing subtle structures beneath the region's sand cover to be identified. "This is exactly the exploration momentum we intended to create: rapidly acquiring high-quality field data, integrating it with Lithosquare's AI-driven targeting platform and advancing the strongest opportunities towards drill-ready status," said Charles Bray, executive chairman of Aterian.

The approach signals a shift toward faster, cheaper target generation ahead of any drilling commitment, useful for a company managing a broad multi-commodity portfolio without over-committing capital to any single licence before the data justifies it.

Caledonia lifts quarterly output backdrop as Blanket production rebounds 18%

Caledonia Mining Corporation (AIM:CMCL), the Zimbabwe-focused gold producer, reported second-quarter revenue of $75.9m, up 16% from $65.3m a year earlier, with shares up 2.2% at 1650p. Blanket Mine's gold production rose 18% quarter-on-quarter to 17,360 ounces as grades improved to 2.9 grams per tonne from 2.5 grams per tonne in the first quarter, though still below the 3.4 grams per tonne achieved in the exceptionally strong second quarter of 2025.

The average realised gold price climbed 34% year-on-year to $4,259 per ounce sold but fell 12% from the preceding quarter. Gross profit rose 16% to $39.2m and EBITDA increased 16% to $45.8m, the latter boosted by an $11.5m gain on derivative revaluation. Excluding that gain and a prior-year $8.5m solar plant disposal gain, profit after tax still rose 23% to $18.5m, while net cash climbed to $167.8m from just $8.2m a year earlier.

The combination of recovering grades and a still-elevated gold price has transformed Caledonia's balance sheet inside twelve months, giving the company far greater flexibility on dividends and reinvestment than it has had in recent years, even as the sequential price decline is a reminder that the tailwind from gold's rally is not one-directional.

Cadence Minerals advances Azteca refurbishment to 87%

Cadence Minerals (AIM:KDNC) shares fell 7.8% to 4.75p even as the company confirmed the refurbishment of its Azteca processing plant has reached 87% completion, keeping the project on track for an end-of-August target.

The milestone brings Cadence closer to reactivating processing capacity that underpins its investment case, though the share price move suggests the market is looking past the construction update toward the operational ramp-up still to come.

Kendrick Resources reports high-grade REE hits at Teufelskuppe

Kendrick Resources (KEN) shares slipped 4.2% to 5.75p despite new diamond drilling at the Teufelskuppe project in Namibia delivering light rare earth oxide grades of up to 5.80% over continuous widths exceeding 36 metres.

The grades and widths reported point to a potentially significant rare earth resource in a jurisdiction with established mining infrastructure, giving Kendrick a data point to build toward a maiden resource estimate.

Xtract Resources advances Amghas antimony mine towards plant commissioning

Xtract Resources (XTR) has appointed local mining and civil contractors to prepare its Amghas antimony project in Morocco for construction of a 70,000 tonnes per annum gravity processing plant, with shares down 3.8% at 1.25p.

The contractor appointments move Xtract a step closer to production at a time when antimony's status as a critical mineral has drawn wider strategic interest, giving the company a tangible construction timeline to work against.

Galantas expands Indiana drill programme to 12,500 metres

Galantas Gold (GAL) is extending its drill programme at the Indiana gold-copper project in Chile to 12,500 metres after visual signs of new mineralisation styles, with shares up 2% at 25p. The expansion is being funded from existing cash.

Self-funding the extra metres avoids dilution and signals management's confidence that the newly observed mineralisation styles warrant a larger, better-defined dataset before any resource work begins.

Bluebird Mining's Bitcoin stream posts first full month of revenue

Bluebird Mining Ventures (BMV), trading at 0.04p, reported that its initial Bitcoin streaming investment generated recurring revenue in line with expectations during its first complete month of production, with net asset value rising to $1.18m.

The update gives Bluebird an early proof point for a diversification away from traditional mining exposure, though the scale of the revenue remains modest against the company's broader asset base.

Tertiary Minerals completes Phase 4 drilling at Mushima North

Tertiary Minerals (TYM), priced at 0.065p, has completed Phase 4 drilling at its Mushima North project in Zambia, with preliminary results from Target A1 supporting both the near-surface silver exploration target and a higher-grade silver-copper zone within it.

The dual-target structure, a broader silver footprint layered over a richer silver-copper core, gives Tertiary two distinct paths to define a resource, strengthening the case for follow-up drilling at Target A1.
