Blackbird's elevate.io lands spot in Google Chromebook perks programme

Blackbird (AIM:BIRD), the AIM-listed cloud video technology company, said its elevate.io product has joined Google's Chromebook perks programme, giving the browser-native editing tool access to millions of Chromebook users.

The partnership will begin with a UK test market launching in October, with the results expected to guide any wider rollout into other territories.

Blackbird's elevate.io is pitched as professional-grade video editing that runs directly in the browser, a format suited to Chromebook's lightweight, cloud-first hardware.

The deal extends Blackbird's reach into a mass-market consumer channel, a contrast to its traditional base of broadcasters, sports and news organisations, and post-production houses that use its core Blackbird platform.

The company has recently been working through a product-market-fit phase for its non-enterprise user base, reporting in June that lower-end content creators tend to be price-sensitive and often favour free tools, while feature functionality drives purchasing and retention across that cohort.

Management has also flagged that these users are more likely to discover tools through trusted communities and referrals than through search, a dynamic that could make a bundled placement inside Google's Chromebook ecosystem a more direct route to adoption.

The Chromebook tie-up follows a period in which Blackbird reported renewed commercial traction elsewhere in the business, including net paid subscriber growth of 75% between March and the end of August, reaching 696 subscribers, alongside a jump in the free-to-paid conversion rate to 2.67% in August from under 1.0% previously.

The UK test launch is expected this month, with its performance to determine whether the programme extends into further markets.
