Insig AI (AIM:INSG) has made its first digital asset investment, committing €300,000 to ATM Labs B.V., which trades as 4Mica, a Belgium based early-stage provider of AI agent micropayments solutions.

The investment marks the launch of the AIM-listed company's digital assets investment proposition, aimed at giving institutional investors access to businesses operating in the emerging digital asset economy.

Completion is expected within 45 days, structured as a zero-interest convertible loan maturing on 31 August 2027, which would convert into a 2.94% fully diluted stake in 4Mica.

Insig AI has also committed to a further €1m investment, conditional on 4Mica securing a substantial fundraising round within 16 months of the loan's completion.

Chief executive Richard Bernstein has indicated he intends to underwrite that follow-on investment personally, should it be required.

4Mica is developing a non-custodial clearing layer for AI agent micropayments, designed as a stablecoin-first, cryptography-based payment rail sitting between the payment protocol and settlement layer.

The company says the technology can be delivered at 99% below the cost of current transactions while supporting substantially higher volumes.

4Mica is led by chief executive Dr Akash Madhusudan, who completed his PhD at KU Leuven on micropayments in decentralised systems, and chief technology officer Dr Mohammad Mahzoun, a cryptography PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology.

The team is supported by Dr Tomer Ashur of 3MI Labs, a Belgium based computer science research institute.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Insig AI has committed €300,000 to 4Mica, a Belgian AI micropayments start-up, as its first digital asset investment, with a further €1m conditional on 4Mica securing substantial fundraising within 16 months. The initial cheque represents a zero-interest convertible loan maturing in 2027 that would yield Insig a 2.94% stake, marking the launch of the company's stated digital assets investment proposition for institutional clients.

Investment case

The investment is immaterial in scale relative to Insig AI's core business (a €300k cheque against an enterprise software platform serving 15+ investment firms) and signals a strategic pivot toward digital asset exposure rather than a material capital deployment. The conditional €1m follow-on and CEO's personal underwriting commitment suggest conviction, but execution risk remains high given 4Mica's early stage and the 16-month fundraising gate.
