Balfour Beatty (LSE:BBY) has secured a £325 million, two-year contract from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks to deliver the Netherton Hub in Aberdeenshire.
The award, made under SSEN's Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment Offshore Framework, follows an earlier appointment in 2025 for enabling works at the same site, deepening an existing relationship with the client.
The Netherton Hub is designed to transmit renewable energy generated in northern Scotland to demand centres across the UK, with Balfour Beatty responsible for earthworks and civil infrastructure: five platforms supporting two substations and three converter stations, plus an operations base and associated facilities.
Peak construction will employ more than 800 workers, with at least 5% drawn from apprentice and graduate roles.
"Securing this contract reinforces Balfour Beatty's position at the forefront of the UK's energy infrastructure market," said Group Chief Executive Philip Hoare.
