Ashtead Technology Holdings (LSE:AT.), the AIM-listed subsea technology solutions provider to the offshore energy sector, reported revenue of £100.2m for the six months to 30 June, up 1.1% on the prior year and 1.7% at constant currency.

Earnings (adjusted EBITA) fell to £25.1m from £27m, with the margin slipping to 25.0% from 27.3% a year earlier. The decline reflects a shift in revenue mix toward non-rental activities and a higher depreciation charge following recent capital investment in the equipment fleet.

Europe delivered a solid performance, offsetting a previously flagged drop in Middle East activity as the region's conflict escalated through the first half, alongside project delays and softer offshore renewables activity in Asia, particularly Taiwan.

Oil and gas sector revenue rose 1.9% while renewables revenue fell 1.6%.

Net debt fell to £116.7m from £131.9m a year earlier, with leverage at 1.4x, expected to ease to around 1.3x by year-end.

The group completed the acquisition of Seadraulics in June, adding ROV tooling capability and an Australian platform for further expansion.

"The agility of our integrated global services platform, our diversified business model, disciplined operational execution and relentless focus on supporting customers, enabled us to deliver revenue growth and robust margins during the period," said chief executive Allan Pirie.

The board's full-year expectations remain unchanged from its 20 August trading update, which flagged the Middle East disruption and postponement of a small number of projects into 2027.

Management points to a total addressable market forecast to grow at a 6% compound annual rate to $3.4bn by 2029, with customer backlogs at Tier 1 contractors still near record levels despite a recent 7% reduction.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Ashtead Technology reported flat revenue growth of 1.1% to £100.2m in H1 2026, with adjusted EBITA margins contracting 230 basis points to 25.0% due to a shift toward lower-margin non-rental work and higher depreciation from recent fleet investment. Middle East conflict disruption and softer Asian renewables activity offset resilient European performance, though the company maintained its full-year guidance and reduced net debt to £116.7m (leverage 1.4x).

Investment case

The margin compression—from 27.3% to 25.0%—is structural rather than cyclical, driven by business mix and capital intensity rather than demand collapse, which supports the company's ability to defend profitability as regional headwinds ease. However, full-year EBITA is expected around 15% below consensus, signaling material earnings risk that extends beyond H1 into the second half.
