Pensana said its chief executive Tim George was one of a small number of international mining executives invited to a private briefing with President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and senior State Department officials on building independent US supply chains for rare earths and critical minerals.
The London-listed rare earths developer said the Administration's goal is to secure non-Chinese supply of elements used in defence systems, electrification, robotics and automation.
Pensana was selected as one of a group of international developers positioned to supply rare earths to the US and allied nations in the near term.
Its Longonjo project in Angola, a US$250 million development now around 25% complete, is one of the largest new independent rare earths sources outside China, with first mixed rare earth carbonate output due in 2028.
Initial production capacity of 20,000 tonnes a year is planned to expand to 40,000 tonnes by year four, alongside a heavy rare earth recovery circuit targeting more than 122 tonnes annually of dysprosium and terbium, which would rank Longonjo among the world's largest heavy rare earths producers.
George also met David Copley of the Executive Office of the President and National Security Council to discuss Pensana's role in securing US supply.
"It was a privilege to be invited to Washington for this important Presidential briefing which is very supportive of our U.S. Mine to magnet strategy and NASDAQ listing," George said.
