80 Mile (AIM:80M) told investors that its wholly owned subsidiary Hydrogen Valley has secured two sustainability certifications for the Ferrandina biodiesel facility in southern Italy.

Greenswitch, which operates the plant, has been awarded both the Italian National Sustainability Certification Scheme (INS) and the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), confirming its products meet EU and Italian traceability and greenhouse gas emissions-saving criteria for renewable fuels.

The dual certification qualifies Ferrandina's output for "double counting" treatment under Italy's biodiesel obligation system and the Certificati di Immissione in Consumo (CIC) regime run by the GSE, the state energy services operator.

Product qualifying for double counting has commonly attracted a premium of €300 to €500 or more per tonne over non-certified output, depending on feedstock, emissions savings and prevailing certificate prices, the company said.

"These approvals confirm that our products meet the rigorous standards required to access the higher-value segments of the European biodiesel market," said Mark Frascogna, managing director of Hydrogen Valley.

The certifications followed a recent audit that identified no issues across the processing facility.

80 Mile said the milestone strengthens ongoing talks with feedstock suppliers, distributors and offtake partners as Ferrandina, capable of producing up to 50,000 tonnes of biodiesel annually, moves through restart and commissioning towards first production.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Greenswitch's Ferrandina biodiesel plant has secured dual Italian and EU sustainability certifications (INS and ISCC), unlocking access to premium-priced certificate schemes worth €300–€500+ per tonne over non-certified output. The facility, capable of 50,000 tonnes annually, is moving toward restart and first production; the certifications strengthen 80 Mile's negotiating position with feedstock suppliers, distributors and offtake partners as it prepares to commercialise.

Investment case

The certifications remove a material regulatory gate to Ferrandina's revenue generation and validate the facility's operational readiness after audit. However, the plant remains in restart and commissioning phases with no production or revenue yet; the investment case now hinges on execution of offtake agreements and actual ramp-up, not on regulatory approval.
