JD Sports Fashion (LSE:JD.) has appointed Peter Agnefjäll as Chair of the Board, effective from 1 September.
The global omni-channel retailer of sports, fashion and outdoor brands said the appointment follows a search process led by Senior Independent Director Kath Smith with support from an external executive search firm.
Agnefjäll succeeds Darren Shapland, who has served as Interim Chair since the AGM on 21 July and will remain on the Board as an Independent Director.
Agnefjäll spent almost two decades at IKEA Group, rising to President and CEO between 2013 and 2017, a period during which the retailer's revenues grew to €36 billion alongside international expansion and digital transformation.
He went on to chair Ahold Delhaize, one of the world's largest food retail groups, from 2021 to 2025, and currently sits on the board of WPP.
His other non-executive roles have included Orkla, Deichmann and Wizz Air.
Shapland said Agnefjäll brings "an exceptional combination of international retail leadership, Board experience and a proven track record of overseeing growth and transformation in complex global businesses."
Agnefjäll said he was looking forward to "deepening its roots in international markets and affirming its position in a rapidly evolving retail landscape."
