Arkadian Strategic Metals (AIM:AKN), the strategic metals and gold-focused explorer, has flagged a defence and security agreement signed in New York between the United States, Denmark and Greenland as potentially beneficial to its Motzfeldt Critical Metals Project.
The pact, signed on 22 September, expands US activity at Pituffik Space Base and proposes new defence areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, alongside provisions on investment screening and Greenlandic participation in defence contracts.
Narsarsuaq sits roughly 20km from Motzfeldt and already underpins Arkadian's field operations, having served as the base for helicopter transport of bulk samples from the project's Aries deposit earlier this year.
Arkadian holds a 51% interest in Motzfeldt, one of five projects in Greenland identified by the Danish and Greenlandic Geological Survey (GEUS) as a "very large" critical raw materials deposit, targeting rare earth elements, niobium, tantalum and zirconium.
The company said future investment in transport and logistics infrastructure roughly Narsarsuaq could support Motzfeldt's development, though any benefit depends on the scope of investment and whether civilian and commercial access is granted.
Executive chairman George Frangeskides said infrastructure investment "has the potential to support the future development of Motzfeldt and business activity across the region", while stressing that local residents and the municipality "should have meaningful input as plans develop".
Technical arrangements for the new defence areas remain to be agreed, and the agreement's entry into force still requires Denmark and Greenland to complete their parliamentary procedures.
