Alien Metals (AIM:UFO), the AIM-listed minerals exploration and development company, has outlined a 12-month work programme for its 100%-owned Georgina Basin Iron-Oxide Copper-Gold (IOCG) project in Australia's Northern Territory.

The programme will assess and rank more than 90 conceptual IOCG targets across the roughly 2,500 square kilometre project, with detailed technical review focused on three advanced prospects at Leichhardt East, Leichhardt West and Banks.

Previous drilling at those three sites returned uranium values of up to 0.23% U3O8, elevated copper over broad intervals and the IOCG pathfinder elements bismuth and silver, tied to strong unexplained gravity anomalies.

The company plans targeted gravity surveys and geophysical modelling to push additional high-priority anomalies toward drill-ready status, alongside engagement with Traditional Owners over access to prospective tenure.

Alien intends to apply for BHP's Xplor accelerator programme, which offers up to $500,000 in equity-free funding, and Northern Territory Government co-funding grants covering up to 50% of eligible costs to a A$150,000 cap.

The full programme is expected to cost approximately A$300,000 (£155,000), covering the fixed monthly consulting fee to Venari Minerals, funded from existing cash resources.

"The Georgina project provides Alien with a substantial copper-gold exploration opportunity supported by significant prior exploration expenditure, an extensive technical dataset, more than 90 conceptual IOCG targets and three advanced prospects," said chief executive Vince Fayad.

The company expects to complete a project-wide target ranking and reach a decision on the next phase of drilling by June 2027.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Alien Metals has committed to a 12-month, A$300,000 (£155,000) exploration programme at its Georgina Basin IOCG project, targeting ranking of 90+ conceptual prospects and advancing three advanced sites toward a drilling decision by June 2027. The spend is modest relative to the company's A$3.0 million cash position at 30 June 2026, and the company is pursuing external funding (BHP's Xplor programme up to $500,000 and NT Government co-funding to A$150,000) to offset costs, but the outcome remains contingent on technical validation over the next 12 months.

Investment case

This formalises Alien's commitment to the Georgina asset acquired via the Knox transaction and establishes a clear technical and timeline gate (June 2027 drilling decision), but does not materially alter the exploration-stage risk profile—the company remains dependent on successful target ranking and external funding to progress.
