Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) (AIM:EOG) announced that it has lodged an appeal with the Secretary of State against North Yorkshire Council's refusal of planning permission for the Cloughton gas appraisal well.
The AIM-quoted oil and gas exploration, development and production company said the local planning authority's decision ran contrary to the recommendation of its own planning officers. Those officers had backed the application after reviewing 13 independent expert reports, all of which supported it, Europa said.
North Yorkshire Council's local planning authority refused permission for the Cloughton appraisal well in May, against officers' recommendation, prompting Europa to say at the time that it strongly disagreed with the basis for the refusal and expected the decision to be overturned on appeal.
Europa said it will update shareholders on the outcome of the appeal in due course.
