Cora Gold (AIM:CORA), the West African focused gold developer, reported the first assay results from its 2026 drilling programme at the Sanankoro Gold Project in southern Mali.
The results come from Zone B, a mineralised corridor stretching more than 2 kilometres that was prioritised for its deeper drill coverage and potential to extend the resource beyond the current model.
Drill hole SC0716 intersected 34 metres grading 6.78 g/t gold from 117 metres, including a higher-grade core of 9 metres at 23.91 g/t, beneath the pit shell used in the 2025 mineral resource estimate and outside its mineralised grade shell.
Other highlights include 54 metres at 1.06 g/t gold from hole SC0718 and 22 metres at 2.24 g/t from hole SC0712.
"34m @ 6.78 g/t Au is a fantastic drill hole", said chief executive Bert Monro, adding that the higher-grade intercepts raise the possibility of underground extensions beyond the planned oxide operation.
The company said the results support potential to expand Sanankoro's current inventory of 1.044 million ounces and 10.2-year mine life.
Cora has drilled 10,656 metres of a planned 12,000-metre programme, with assays still pending from Selin, Dakounkoura South, Zone A and Zone C, and drilling continuing at Zone B south, Kary and TRA07.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
Cora Gold's first 2026 assay results from Zone B at Sanankoro include a 34-metre intercept grading 6.78 g/t gold—well above the project's current resource model—drilled beneath the existing pit shell and outside the resource grade shell. The intercept includes a 9-metre core at 23.91 g/t, suggesting potential for underground extensions beyond the planned oxide operation and expansion of the current 1.044 million ounce inventory.
The intercepts outside the current resource model support the case for resource expansion at Sanankoro, though the company remains early-stage with $1.65m in cash at 30 June 2026 and dependent on external financing to advance toward construction. Pending assays from five other zones and ongoing drilling will be material to whether these results represent a systematic extension or isolated high-grade pockets.
