Poolbeg Pharma (AIM:POLB) said it has been granted a Canadian patent covering the use of p38 MAPK inhibitors, including POLB 001, for the prevention of cancer immunotherapy-induced Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS).

The grant follows an IP Australia approval in March 2026 and strengthens the company's cancer immunotherapy-induced CRS patent family while enhancing POLB 001's value to potential partners; Poolbeg is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical focused on transforming the cancer immunotherapy field.

"With interim data from the TOPICAL trial expected this summer, we believe this patent grant further enhances the attractiveness of POLB 001 to prospective partners," Jeremy Skillington, CEO, said.

Poolbeg said the patent is underpinned by its proprietary data, covers the use of any p38 MAPK inhibitor, and was expedited through the Patent Prosecution Highway after a favourable ruling in a participating jurisdiction.

The company said it filed initial oncology patent applications in the UK in January 2023, entered the PCT system in January 2024, its IP portfolio now spans CRS and severe influenza across multiple jurisdictions, and it will continue to pursue protection in further territories.
