Coiled Therapeutics (AIM:COIL) has appointed Professor Ozgur Sahin, Ph.D., as a Scientific Advisor, the company announced on 8 June.

Professor Sahin is a named inventor on the foundational patents underpinning Coiled’s lead programme AO-252 and is described by the company as one of the world’s leading authorities on TACC3 biology, currently holding the SmartState Endowed Chair and a professorship in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Medical University of South Carolina where he also co-leads cancer biology and breast cancer teams and has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and secured multiple grants and industry spinouts.

Coiled Therapeutics is an AIM-listed, clinical-stage biotechnology company developing precision oncology therapies, with AO-252, a first-in-class orally administered, brain-penetrant TACC3 inhibitor, currently in a Phase I trial.

In his advisory role Professor Sahin will work with the Coiled leadership team to support AO-252 through key development milestones over the next 12 months, including transition into targeted dose expansion cohorts, introduction of a next-generation formulation and initiation of a combination therapy protocol later this year.

"As we advance the programme through dose expansion, combination studies and next-generation formulation development, his expertise will further strengthen our scientific foundations supporting our clinical strategy," Sridhar Vempati, Chief Executive Officer, said.

The company said this appointment is the first in a series as it establishes a wider Scientific Advisory Board.
