IP Group (LSE:IPO) said portfolio company Enterprise Therapeutics achieved the primary efficacy outcome in a Phase 2 trial of inhaled ETD001 for cystic fibrosis, with a clinically meaningful improvement in lung function versus placebo over a 28-day treatment period.
The trial evaluated efficacy, safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics in the roughly 10% of people with cystic fibrosis with the highest unmet medical need, and reported adverse events consistent with those expected in this patient population.
"This is a highly encouraging clinical milestone for Enterprise Therapeutics and a strong validation of its differentiated approach to cystic fibrosis," said Greg Smith, Chief Executive of IP Group.
Enterprise said it will advance ETD001 into longer-duration Phase 2b studies, test the candidate in combination with CFTR modulator therapies, and explore its potential in other muco-obstructive lung diseases.
