Futura Medical (AIM:FUM), the AIM-listed consumer healthcare company behind erectile dysfunction gel Eroxon, reported highly positive results from two studies of its female sexual health candidate WSD4000 on Tuesday.
The company said WSD4000 was statistically superior to placebo across all key measures, including arousal, genital sensation and lubrication, at every time interval tested in a 33-woman placebo-controlled crossover study.
A separate home user test across 228 women found that 78% reported a general improvement in sexual function, 84% experienced improvement after four uses, and 81% noticed an improvement to overall sexual function.
"We are delighted to report this positive data from the two studies for WSD4000," said Ken James, Executive Director and Head of R&D, adding that the results give the company confidence WSD4000 can become "the first clinically proven, regulatory approved multi-symptom treatment for sexual problems in women."
Futura said there is currently no regulatory-approved topical over-the-counter treatment for impaired sexual response and function in women globally, a market Ipsos research estimates affects 68 million American women aged 22 to 75.
The company expects to commence a pivotal clinical study by the end of 2026, subject to additional funding, with a market launch targeted from early 2028, conditional on trial completion and regulatory approval.
