Jersey Oil & Gas (AIM:JOG), an AIM-listed independent upstream operator focused on the UK Continental Shelf, said the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has extended the Second Term of its P2170 "Verbier" licence by roughly six months to 28 February 2027.

The extension aligns Verbier's timeline with that of the P2498 "Buchan Horst" licence, both part of what the company calls the Greater Buchan Area (GBA), in which JOG holds a 20% interest.

The Second Term is the window in which licensees must secure Field Development Plan approval before moving into production; the alignment reflects the NSTA's push for an integrated area-wide plan rather than separate schedules for the two licences. A request to extend the Buchan licence's Second Term will follow towards the end of the year, alongside a further extension request for P2170, as part of a broader development schedule.

The joint venture had proposed redeploying the Western Isles floating production vessel in its draft development plan, but the company said the passage of time means alternative production solutions now warrant fresh screening.

The NSTA is also pushing the venture to evaluate connecting nearby third-party resources to a Buchan-based production hub.

"There is an exciting opportunity to unlock the resources across the area through the development of a Buchan-led production hub," chief executive Andrew Benitz said, adding that the Energy Profits Levy has "unquestionably led to a significant slowdown in investment activity."

Partners are drawing up a 2027 work plan and budget to support the GBA's progression and the licence extensions.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Jersey Oil & Gas secured a six-month extension of its Verbier licence's Second Term to February 2027, aligning it with the Buchan Horst licence as the NSTA pushes for an integrated area-wide development plan rather than separate schedules. The company must now reassess production solutions—including alternatives to its previously proposed Western Isles floating production vessel—and evaluate connecting third-party resources to a Buchan-based hub, with partners to finalize a 2027 work plan and budget.

Investment case

The extension buys time but signals regulatory complexity: JOG's 20% stake in the Greater Buchan Area remains in pre-production limbo, dependent on partner alignment and NSTA approval of an integrated plan. CEO Andrew Benitz cited the Energy Profits Levy as a drag on investment activity, underscoring the fiscal headwinds facing North Sea development.
