Iofina (AIM:IOF) has signed agreements with an existing brine supply partner to develop its next two IOsorb plants, designated IO#13 and IO#14, in the central Oklahoma core area.
The AIM-listed group specialises in iodine exploration, production and specialty chemicals, and currently operates eight producing IOsorb plants in Oklahoma using its WET extraction technology. The two plants will be built concurrently, with groundwork expected to start soon and operations targeted before the end of the first half of 2027.
Iofina describes the project as its largest undertaking in the core area to date, though the plants will otherwise match the design of recent IOsorb builds.
The new capacity adds to IO#12, which the company expects to commission by the end of this month.
Combined, the three plants underpin Iofina's stated objective of reaching 2,000 metric tonnes of iodine production per year over the next couple of years.
"The decision to build two plants at the same time is a calculated choice to ensure the delivery of the Group's strategy", said Dr. Tom Becker, President and CEO, adding that the plants are expected to significantly add to Iofina's crystalline iodide capacity.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
Iofina is building two IOsorb plants (IO#13 and IO#14) concurrently in central Oklahoma, targeting mid-2027 completion as part of its push to reach 2,000 metric tonnes of annual iodine production. Combined with IO#12 (expected online by end-Q3 2026), the three plants form the backbone of that 2,000-tonne target, and the decision to build IO#13 and IO#14 simultaneously—described as the company's largest undertaking in the core area to date—signals confidence in executing its expansion roadmap.
Iofina produced record H1 2026 crystalline iodine output of 393.3 metric tonnes, and this dual-plant build extends that momentum toward its stated 2,000-tonne objective. The concurrent construction approach compresses the timeline and locks in brine supply partnerships, but execution risk on two simultaneous projects in a new core area remains material until groundwork begins and commissioning dates hold.
