Alumasc first-quarter revenue rises 10% as all divisions grow

Alumasc Group (AIM:ALU) on Tueday told investors that group revenue for the first quarter of its financial year to June 2027 ran 10% ahead of the same period last year, extending the momentum flagged at its FY26 results.

The AIM-listed premium building products group, which supplies water management, building envelope and housebuilding systems to the UK construction market, told shareholders at its annual general meeting on Tuesday that the gain included first call-offs from a £2m project at Changi Airport in Singapore alongside continued sales to Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong.

Stripping out those contracts, group revenue was still 5% ahead of the prior-year quarter, despite what the company called subdued demand in UK residential construction.

All three divisions grew: Water Management rose 13.3%, Building Envelope 7.0% and Housebuilding Products 6.4%, against a group-wide increase of 9.6%.

Margins improved year-on-year, which the company attributed to operational gearing and the benefit of recent restructuring.

The order book stood 67% higher than a year earlier at the end of September, continuing to build despite a faster rate of call-offs, and new orders won in early October included £2.1m at Building Envelope for the first phase of a student accommodation refurbishment at Manchester University and £0.4m at Water Management for the first phase of an upgrade project at the Tin Can Island Port Complex in Nigeria, which the company said reflects efforts to diversify export markets beyond the Middle East and Asia.

"Against such a tough economic and construction market backdrop, it is encouraging to see the positive revenue and order intake momentum continue over Q1 FY27 and into the first weeks of Q2 across all of our divisions," said interim executive chair Vijay Thakrar, adding that the board "remains confident of progress in FY27, in line with expectations."

The update follows a year in which Alumasc reported FY26 revenue of approximately £107m, down from £113m, and underlying pre-tax profit of around £10m, down from £14m, with Water Management revenue falling approximately 16% amid a weaker fourth quarter blamed on geopolitical tensions, UK political uncertainty and a constrained planning environment.
