Sterling Digital (AQSE:ASIC), which is developing low-cost digital asset mining operations in the United States, said both of its 2 MW Caterpillar natural gas generators are now running and producing electricity at its West Texas site.

The commissioning programme has moved past initial start-up of the individual generators and into integrated testing of the full power plant, which also includes gas supply and regulation systems, cooling and lubrication systems, switchgear, control systems and power-distribution infrastructure.

Each subsystem is being brought online in sequence and validated against the rest of the plant before commercial operations begin.

Sterling's five-year Gas Purchase Agreement secures up to 6,500 MMBtu of pipeline gas per day, enough to support up to 25 MW of computing capacity and a path for expansion beyond the current build.

The next milestone is energisation of Sterling's fleet of 420 ASIC mining servers, representing approximately 193,500 terahashes per second of capacity, ahead of the start of Bitcoin production.

By generating power on-site from contracted low-cost gas, Sterling controls the principal variable cost in Bitcoin mining rather than relying on grid electricity.
