Hercules (AIM:HERC) launched The Skills Gulf whitepaper in the Houses of Parliament, a report unveiled by Skills Minister Jacqui Smith that sets out industry-wide recommendations to tackle the growing skills gap in construction and infrastructure.

The paper quantifies the sector's requirement for an additional 250,000 workers and, for Hercules, a leading UK infrastructure and construction services group, proposes practical measures including stronger collaboration between industry, government and education providers, and increased investment in training.

"Through stronger collaboration between government, industry and education providers, increased investment in skills and training, and the intelligent use of technology, we can build a larger, more productive workforce for the future," Brusk Korkmaz, CEO, said.

Jodie Gosling, MP for Nuneaton, welcomed the report and highlighted Hercules' contribution to local upskilling through the Hercules Academy.

The whitepaper promotes workforce planning, skills development and technology adoption as a roadmap to support delivery of the UK's infrastructure pipeline and to attract the next generation of talent.
