ImmuPharma (AIM:IMM), the AIM-listed specialist drug discovery and development company, appointed Bachem as active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing partner for its Kapiglucagon program on 25 June, following a competitive tender process.

The selection is framed as a material chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) milestone, intended to support IND-enabling preparation and advance Kapiglucagon toward a first-in-human study.

Kapiglucagon is a water-soluble glucagon prodrug designed for use in next-generation artificial pancreas systems for Type 1 Diabetes patients, targeting the formulation instability that has native glucagon in pump-based delivery.

Bachem is a global peptide and oligonucleotide manufacturer with capabilities spanning early-stage development through to commercial API supply, including experience with glucagon.

"This is an important CMC step for the program and strengthens the foundation for its further development toward the clinic," said Dr Sébastien Goudreau, ImmuPharma's Chief Scientific Officer.

The immediate focus shifts to the API workstream with Bachem, after which ImmuPharma will appoint a drug product manufacturing partner to handle formulation and broader IND-enabling activities.

In parallel, the company will pursue regulatory interactions with health authorities, with progression toward IND submission and first-in-human studies contingent on that alignment.
