Georgina Energy (LSE:GEX) has started pre-drilling civil engineering works at the Hussar prospect in exploration permit EP513 after signing a contract with Ensign Australia Pty for the supply of an Ensign 970 drill rig.

The exploration company, via its wholly owned Australian subsidiary Westmarket Oil & Gas Pty, plans to re-enter the Hussar well to target the subsalt Townsend Formation and fractured Neoproterozoic basement lithologies which an independent assessment assigns 2U recoverable resources of 283 BCF helium, 315 BCF hydrogen and 2,925 BCF hydrocarbon gas.

Contractors are on site and works include widening and grading the Hussar 1 airstrip to accommodate crew-change flights and the installation of a CASA-standard wind direction indicator, with the company anticipating 12-15 crew rotations weekly on a 19-seat Swearingen Metroliner once drilling starts.

The main access track along a 1984 seismic line will be cleared, levelled and upgraded to carry 50-plus semi-trailers or B-double trucks (each of 40-60 tonnes plus), and the drilling site and camp will be cleared, levelled, graded, compacted and supplied with on-site water well(s).

Aztech Well Construction and Georgina technical personnel are due on site in June to supervise pre-drill inspections and the work programmes required under the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration's approved Well Management Plan lodged by Westmarket O&G in 2025.

Drilling is expected to commence after the completion of the pre-drill works and regulatory inspections.
