Avacta Therapeutics (AIM:AVCT) has appointed Richard Hughes as non‑executive Chairman, effective subject to its Annual General Meeting on 22 June.

Hughes joined the board as a non‑executive director in May 2025 and brings over 30 years of UK corporate finance experience, having been a founder shareholder and director of boohoo.com, a majority shareholder of Crawford Healthcare and a director of Zeus Group, and Avacta is a clinical‑stage life sciences company developing the pre|CISION® tumour‑activated delivery platform.

Shaun Chilton, who joined the board in 2022 and served as non‑executive Chairman since 2024, has decided not to seek re‑election at the AGM and will remain available to the company as an adviser to the CEO and the board.

The company is conducting a recruitment process to appoint a non‑executive Deputy Chairman who will serve as the Senior Independent Director and is expected to have proven international expertise in the biotechnology sector, and the search is ongoing.

"Richard brings extensive experience which will be important for Avacta as we continue to deliver on the unique advantages of our pre|CISION®platform, now with two products progressing through clinical development," Christina Coughlin, Chief Executive Officer, said.
