EMS, a leading distributor of aluminum products and a Wynnchurch Capital portfolio company, has announced the acquisition of American Metals Supply (AMS), a Tampa-based distributor specializing in aluminum products for patio, industrial, and structural applications. The deal strengthens EMS’s geographic reach and enhances its capabilities across key end markets, including residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, according to a press release issued by Wynnchurch Capital. The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.

Founded in 1982, EMS has grown from a single Florida location into a network of more than 20 distribution and manufacturing facilities, totalling nearly two million square feet. Since Wynnchurch acquired EMS in 2019, the company has completed seven acquisitions, with AMS being the latest addition.

AMS, established 25 years ago, has built a reputation for customer service, product availability, and reliable delivery. CEO Kevin Gonzalez was quoted in the press statement as saying that joining EMS will accelerate AMS’s growth trajectory and expand its capabilities while maintaining its commitment to customers. EMS CEO Mike Swedick echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shared “high touch” service model and the opportunity to build on AMS’s strong foundation.

Strategic Growth Through Targeted Acquisitions

The acquisition underscores Wynnchurch Capital’s strategy of partnering with middle-market companies poised for growth. With $9.1 billion in assets under management, Wynnchurch continues to expand its portfolio across industries, including recent investments in marine products, aluminum extrusions, and LED components.

This latest move positions EMS to further solidify its role as a key supplier in the aluminium distribution market, while AMS gains resources to scale nationally, as claimed in the press note.
