Solvonis secures another US patent for PTSD programme

Solvonis said the USPTO issued the new patent on 7 April 2, protecting a chemically distinct monoamine modulator series and extending its PTSD intellectual‑property estate.

Solvonis Therapeutics (LSE:SVNS) has added a second US composition‑of‑matter patent to its PTSD discovery programme, reinforcing exclusive rights over a new series of small molecules that target serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline transporters (SERT, DAT and NET).

U.S. Patent No. 12,595,269 was issued on 7 April 2026 and, the company said, has a term expected to run until 16 February 2043, subject to maintenance fee payments and any applicable extensions or adjustments. Composition‑of‑matter protection secures the compounds themselves rather than only uses or manufacturing methods — a form of protection typically regarded as the most commercially valuable in drug development.

The patent covers a chemically distinct monoamine modulator series emerging from Solvonis’s PTSD discovery work. The company pointed to the size of the opportunity, saying PTSD affects more than 20 million people across the UK, US and major European markets and noting recent sector activity such as Otsuka’s agreement to acquire Transcend Therapeutics for potential consideration of US$1.225 billion as evidence of rising strategic interest in next‑generation psychiatric treatments.

This grant follows a run of near‑term milestones in Solvonis’s PTSD programme: a USPTO Notice of Allowance announced in January 2026, the selection of SVN‑114 as lead candidate in March 2026, and the grant of U.S. Patent No. 12,590,077 on 31 March 2026. Together, the company said, the two patents cover two chemically distinct monoamine series and widen the chemistry estate available for optimisation, lifecycle management and follow‑on development beyond a single lead asset.

"This second patent reflects the breadth of our monoamine modulation research and the scientific strategy behind it. By exploring multiple chemically distinct series acting across SERT, DAT and NET, we increase the probability of identifying differentiated compounds with attractive translational and therapeutic profiles." — Professor David Nutt, Chief Scientific Officer of Solvonis Therapeutics plc

Anthony Tennyson, Solvonis CEO, added: "The grant of a second U.S. patent within a week further strengthens the long‑term value of our PTSD programme and reinforces the depth of chemistry underpinning this discovery programme. In an area of clear unmet need and rising strategic and commercial interest, strong intellectual property matters. Securing patent protection across multiple novel chemical series strengthens our position as we advance SVN‑114 and continue to expand our CNS pipeline."

The company said the wider discovery platform continues in parallel with its lead clinical programmes: SVN‑001 is in Phase 3 for severe alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the UK and SVN‑002 is preparing for a Phase 2b trial in the US, while PTSD efforts centre on SVN‑114 as the lead compound from the protected series.
