FirstGroup (LSE:FGP) has secured a contract to provide worker transport and site shuttle services at the Sizewell C nuclear power plant construction site in Suffolk, with services beginning in July 2026 and running for up to five years.
The contract is awarded to Specialist Passenger Solutions (SPS), FirstGroup's workforce transport subsidiary, which will operate a fleet of approximately 150 zero-emission buses, including hydrogen and electric vehicles, supplied by Sizewell C Ltd.
The operation is expected to create around 400 jobs, covering drivers, engineers and support staff, and will serve a workforce that is projected to reach nearly 8,000 at peak construction.
SPS brings direct precedent to the contract: it has managed workforce transport at the Hinkley Point C nuclear site in Somerset since 2016 and currently moves more than 12,000 people a day at what FirstGroup describes as the UK's largest active construction site.
Chief Executive Graham Sutherland said the Business and Coach segment, which houses SPS, had seen revenues double to £230m in the financial year 2026, and that growing and diversifying the bus portfolio was a strategic priority for the group.
The contract commences in July 2026.
