Vodafone results reassure but won't inspire fresh buying

Vodafone's full-year earnings metrics landed at the top end of guidance and management upgraded forecasts, yet a 4% share drop shows the market had already priced in this amount of good news.

Adam Vettese, market analyst at eToro, argues Vodafone's full-year numbers represent "solid delivery" with EBITDAaL at the top end of guidance and upgraded forecasts - but the FTSE 100 constituent's 4% share fall shows the print wasn't the sort of blowout the market needed to push the stock higher.

He says a near 70% rally over the past twelve months left little room for upside, and a debt pile close to €26 billion combined with margin pressure from surging post-merger depreciation means adjusted metrics are doing the heavy lifting while reported earnings lag.

Vettese points to Germany showing tentative signs of recovery, Africa remaining a genuine bright spot and the Three UK integration tracking well, but he cautions that much of the easy money in Vodafone's transition from recovery to growth has already been made.

"At these levels, patience and selectivity are the watchwords."
