Filtronic lands $68.1m SpaceX order

Filtronic has secured a $68.1m (£51.3m) follow-on order from SpaceX for its Cerus E-band gallium nitride (GaN) Solid State Power Amplifier units.

It is the largest order the AIM-listed designer and manufacturer of radio-frequency components for space, defence and telecoms networks has received from the satellite operator.

The order follows the $62.5m SpaceX contract announced in August 2025 for Filtronic's proprietary next-generation GaN E-band technology.

Filtronic expects the new order to be materially fulfilled during FY2028, which it said underpins the board's expectations for that year and extends revenue visibility.

GaN offers higher output power, better efficiency and stronger thermal performance than traditional gallium arsenide components, advantages the company said are particularly valuable for low Earth orbit satellite communications.

Chief executive Nat Edington called the order "another significant milestone for Filtronic, providing extended order visibility and coverage over the next couple of years", adding that it reinforces the company's position at the leading edge of the shift toward GaN technology.

The win extends a run of SpaceX-linked announcements this year: Filtronic flagged GaN production ramping through FY2027 at its August full-year results, when it reported revenue of £55.5m and adjusted EBITDA of £11.3m, down from £17m, as it invested following several years of rapid growth.

It also follows a separate $16.5m run of contracts disclosed in September with a different US satellite customer, part of a broader diversification that cut reliance on its largest customer to 68% of group revenue from 83% in FY2025.
