Kavango Resources (LSE:KAV) has appointed Jasper Musadaidzwa as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, with immediate effect.

Musadaidzwa, a Zimbabwean national, spent 17 of his 27 years in mining at AngloGold Ashanti, most recently as Senior Vice President of its Guinea Business Unit.

There, he extended the mine's life from 2026 to 2034, doubled its net present value and restored it to sustainable cash generation.

He previously oversaw AngloGold Ashanti's Africa region operations, covering four mines in Ghana, Tanzania, Mali and Guinea that together produced approximately 1.1 million ounces of gold annually and generated roughly $2 billion in revenue.

Donald McAlister, who had served as Non-Executive Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer, becomes Executive Chairman following the appointment.

"Kavango has reached an important stage of its development. We have established a growing operational platform in Zimbabwe, and our ambition is to build this into a substantial and sustainable mining business", McAlister said.

Musadaidzwa began his mining career in Zimbabwe nearly three decades ago before roles at Anglo American's Skorpion Zinc mine in Namibia and senior positions across AngloGold Ashanti's African operations.

"My immediate priority will be to work with the team to build on that foundation, strengthen our operational capability and progress the Company towards becoming a sustainable, cash-generative mining business", he said.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Kavango Resources has appointed Jasper Musadaidzwa, a 27-year mining veteran with 17 years at AngloGold Ashanti, as Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. Musadaidzwa's track record includes extending AngloGold's Guinea mine life to 2034, doubling its NPV, and overseeing African operations that produced ~1.1 million ounces annually and ~$2 billion in revenue. The appointment signals Kavango's transition from interim leadership as it advances toward commercial production at its Hillside project in Zimbabwe, where the 50 tpd plant began commissioning with stockpiled and freshly milled Hillside sands.

Investment case

The hire brings substantial operational and African mining experience to a company at a critical stage—moving from proof-of-concept processing toward commercial production. Whether Musadaidzwa's track record at a major producer translates to building Kavango into a sustainable cash-generative business depends on execution at Hillside and the company's ability to scale beyond its current 69% capacity utilisation.
