Poolbeg Pharma, the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on transforming cancer immunotherapy, said the Israeli Patent Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for its POLB 001 patent application.
The patent covers the use of p38 MAPK inhibitors, including POLB 001, to prevent cytokine release syndrome (CRS) triggered by cancer immunotherapy, a condition Poolbeg's lead asset is designed to pre-empt with an oral, preventative treatment.
The Israeli allowance follows a grant decision in Europe and formal patent grants already secured in Australia and Canada, extending the geographic reach of Poolbeg's intellectual property estate around POLB 001.
The application, underpinned by proprietary data generated by Poolbeg, has cleared examination in Israel and the board expects it to proceed to formal grant.
"Receiving a Notice of Allowance from the Israeli Patent Office is an important step towards securing full patent protection and reflects the strength of our proprietary data and scientific approach," said Jeremy Skillington, chief executive officer of Poolbeg Pharma.
Skillington said the company continues to build a globally protected patent estate to strengthen POLB 001's appeal to potential partners as it advances through clinical development.
