Getech wins €1m European Commission hydrogen study contract

"This contract is both financially material and gives the company an unparalleled opportunity to further validate and refine its natural hydrogen exploration methodologies at continental scale", said chief executive Chris Jepps

Getech Group (AIM:GTC), a locator of subsurface resources, has been selected as a key technical partner in a consortium awarded a European Commission contract to produce the first Europe-wide assessment of natural hydrogen potential.

The contract is expected to be worth more than €1 million to Getech, realised across the 2026 and 2027 financial years.

The 12-month study, commissioned by the EC's Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, will map geological settings favourable to natural hydrogen accumulations across all EU member states and assess the feasibility of commercial extraction at selected locations.

Getech will deliver the main geological components as part of a consortium led by Trinomics B.V., drawing on its natural hydrogen exploration workflow, proprietary gravity and magnetic datasets and its Globe geoscience platform.

Revenue will come from consultancy, data and software licence fees.

The award followed a competitive EC procurement process that assessed technical capability, sector expertise and the ability to deliver a consistent evaluation across all member states.

"This contract is both financially material and gives the company an unparalleled opportunity to further validate and refine its natural hydrogen exploration methodologies at continental scale", said chief executive Chris Jepps, adding that the expertise built through the study "is directly transferable" and could support similar mandates in other regions.

Getech pointed to Africa, South America and Central Asia as areas with strong geological indicators of natural hydrogen potential that remain largely unexplored, where its global datasets could position it to lead future assessments.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Getech has won a €1m European Commission contract to map natural hydrogen reservoirs across the EU, delivering geological analysis as part of a consortium over 2026–27. The win validates Getech's natural hydrogen exploration methodology at continental scale and positions it to pursue similar mandates in Africa, South America and Central Asia—regions the company identifies as having strong geological hydrogen potential but remaining largely unexplored.

Investment case

The contract adds revenue visibility in a nascent but strategically important market (natural hydrogen) where Getech's subsurface expertise and proprietary datasets are differentiated. At €1m over two years, the contract is material relative to H1 FY26 revenue of £2.4m, and the methodologies refined through the study could unlock larger regional assessments if natural hydrogen exploration scales as the company anticipates.
