STV's (LSE:STVG) new national commercial radio station, STV Radio, has attracted 139,000 weekly listeners in its first official RAJAR audience figures since launching on 6 January.
The Glasgow-headquartered broadcaster and streamer, in a statement, said the debut result already places STV Radio among the top ten most-listened-to commercial stations in Scotland. Listeners tuned in for 1.3 million hours across the survey period, spending over 9.3 hours each with the station weekly.
The station's target demographic, listeners aged 35 and over, accounted for 84% of that audience.
"To attract around 139,000 weekly listeners and deliver 1.3 million hours of listening in our first months on air is an incredible result", said Graham Bryce, managing director of STV Radio.
Available on DAB, STV Player and smart speakers, the station is fronted by breakfast presenters Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey, who joined from Greatest Hits Radio.
Its Saturday sports programme, The STV Radio Football Show, has since spawned a Monday podcast, a Friday television spin-off across STV, STV Player and YouTube, and a sold-out live show at Glasgow's Òran Mór.
Since launch, STV Radio's social channels have generated almost 20 million video views and 1.5 million engagements, according to Sprout Social data cited by the company, with the football podcast adding a further 21 million video views across social platforms.
Figures are drawn from RAJAR's Scotland Total Survey Area data for the second quarter.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
STV Radio attracted 139,000 weekly listeners in its first official RAJAR survey six months after launch, placing it in Scotland's top ten commercial stations. The result exceeded management expectations, with listeners spending 9.3 hours weekly on the station and the target demographic (35+) representing 84% of the audience—a strong demographic fit for advertising.
The debut figure validates STV Group's radio strategy and demonstrates audience traction in a crowded market, though sustained listening across future RAJAR releases will determine whether this launch momentum translates into durable revenue growth for the group.
