Filtronic (AIM:FTC) has secured an $8m (£5.9m) follow-on contract with a US-based customer to design, develop and build prototype units for deployment on satellites.
The AIM-listed designer and manufacturer of RF solutions for the space, aerospace, defence and telecoms markets said the award builds on a $0.5m initial development contract announced in June and an $8m order for amplifier technology placed by the same customer in March.
Total business from this single US customer now stands at $16.5m across three contracts since the start of the year.
The contract is expected to complete in the first half of the 2028 financial year, with revenue recognised across the 2027 and 2028 financial years.
Chief executive Nat Edington said the award "demonstrates the growing relationship and the confidence they have in Filtronic's technical expertise", adding that the company is "expanding our role in this programme" as the customer's technology moves towards deployment.
The deal adds further visibility to Filtronic's revenue base as it builds out its position in mmWave technology, the high-frequency radio spectrum used in modern satellite payload systems, for the fast-growing satellite communications market.
News Intelligence what this means for the company
Filtronic has secured an $8m follow-on contract for satellite payload prototypes from a US customer, bringing total business from that single customer to $16.5m across three contracts since March. The deal extends revenue visibility into FY2028 and signals deepening customer confidence in the company's mmWave technology capabilities as satellite communications demand accelerates.
This contract reinforces Filtronic's positioning in high-frequency satellite systems at a time when the company is building out its mmWave technology footprint. At FY2026 revenue of £55.5m, a $16.5m customer relationship represents material concentration risk, though the multi-year contract structure and prototype-to-deployment trajectory suggest a pathway to sustained revenue rather than a one-off order.
