Abingdon Health CDMO helps launch LVOne stroke triage test in UK

The firm's CDMO work underpinned the UKCA-marked commercial launch and London Ambulance Service deployment of LVOne, a two-biomarker rapid blood test to identify likely large vessel occlusion strokes in under 10 minutes.

Abingdon Health (AIM:ABDX) said its contract development and manufacturing work supported the UK commercial launch and UKCA marking of LVOne, UpFront Diagnostics' rapid blood test for pre-hospital identification of large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke.

The LVOne assay pair measures D-dimer and GFAP from a finger-prick blood sample with results in under ten minutes to help paramedics distinguish stroke types and alert hospitals for time-critical treatment, noting an estimated 1.9 million brain cells are lost every minute after stroke onset, and Abingdon Health is a med‑tech contract service provider.

Abingdon Health acted as CDMO for LVOne, delivering feasibility through scale-up, quality control, robustness testing, validation and routine manufacture of the two assays while navigating evolving scope, inter-dependent dual‑biomarker development and complex reagent lead times.

UpFront Diagnostics will initially deploy LVOne to about 280 London Ambulance Service vehicles in North Central London with planned expansion to North West and North East London during a six‑month pilot covering about 6.5 million people, led by Dr Robert Simister and clinical partners at UCLH and major stroke centres.

"LVOne is a powerful illustration of how lateral flow technology can be applied to time‑critical clinical decision making in pre‑hospital emergency care," said Chris Yates, Chief Commercial Officer of Abingdon Health.

The six‑month London pilot is the immediate next milestone for the programme as Abingdon continues to support manufacture and deployment.
