GreenRoc Strategic Materials (AIM:GROC) told investors it has completed Phase III diamond drilling at its Amitsoq graphite project in Greenland, with the thickest intersection, approximately 23.70 metres true thickness in drill hole AM_DD_041, matching the thickest intercept recorded during the 2022 drilling campaign.
The AIM-listed company, which is developing Amitsoq into a producing graphite mine to supply electric vehicle manufacturers in Europe and North America, drilled eight holes from three platforms out of ten originally planned, with every hole bar one striking significant graphite thicknesses.
GreenRoc said the drilling has extended the mineralised zone 100 to 150 metres north-northwest of previous drilling, and that the core and associated geotechnical and hydrogeological data are sufficient to begin a Pre-Feasibility Study, now planned for the first quarter of 2027.
"I'm very pleased with the results of this year's drilling at Amitsoq. We have confirmed the extent and thickness of the graphite orebodies, and have intersected the targeted mineralisation well beyond the current resource drilling and into the previously untested northern extension of the deposit," said chief executive Stefan Bernstein.
The January 2023 JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate for Amitsoq stood at 23.05 million tonnes grading 20.41% graphite, and the October 2023 preliminary economic assessment envisaged mining 8.26 million tonnes of the Lower Graphite Layer at a combined grade of 21.3% over an initial 22 years, of which 2.1 million tonnes sat in the lower-confidence Inferred category.
One objective of the Phase III campaign was to convert that Inferred tonnage into the higher-confidence Indicated or Measured categories needed to plan the mine at PFS level, though any resource upgrade remains subject to assay results and assessment by the independent Competent Person.
A second planned hole from Platform 2 and four holes planned for Platform 4 have been postponed to a Phase IV campaign due to time constraints, with drill rods and equipment packed and winterised ahead of that programme, expected in spring or summer 2027.
The first batch of drill core samples is on its way to ALS in Ireland for analysis, GreenRoc noted.

Separately, GreenRoc has received the main components of the purification line ordered from Sepor in Florida, including pumps, a filter press, reactor tanks, ovens and rinse tanks, for its Active Anode Materials pilot plant in Hørsholm, Denmark.
A Grundfos water purification plant capable of producing ultra-pure process water has already been installed at the site, and the purification line is scheduled for commissioning in January 2027 following an internal safety audit.
A 20-tonne bulk sample from Amitsoq is currently being processed into graphite concentrate at GTK in Finland, which GreenRoc said will allow it to produce spherical purified graphite from Amitsoq material and begin the qualification process with potential offtake customers once the purification line is operational.
"Subject to successful commissioning, we expect to be able to use graphite concentrate produced from our 20-tonne bulk sample to begin producing spherical purified graphite during 2027," Bernstein said.
