Serval Resources (AIM:SRVL), which is building an independent copper and future metals developer, said Botswana's Department of Mines has renewed every exploration prospecting licence in its portfolio.

The renewed licences, including PL 061/2021, PL 062/2021, PL 2473/2023 and PL 2474/2023, are now valid until 30 September 2028.

PL 2474/2023 forms part of the Sweet Thorn Pan prospect, Serval's top exploration priority in the Kalahari Copper Belt.

The company relinquished a lower-priority licence, PL 2472/2023, trimming its Kalahari Copper Belt land package to approximately 990.93 square kilometres from 1,283 square kilometres previously.

Chief executive Robin Birchall said the renewals demonstrate the team's commitment to operating within its regulatory obligations in Botswana.

"This licence has been shown from historical work to have the known mineralised contact that is being mined by the nearby MMG Khoemacau operations, and this renewal has ensured that we maintain all of the originally identified prospective areas", Birchall said, referring to PL 2474.

News Intelligence what this means for the company

Serval Resources has secured renewal of all four exploration licences in its Botswana portfolio through September 2028, including PL 2474/2023 covering its top-priority Sweet Thorn Pan prospect. The company voluntarily relinquished a lower-priority licence, trimming its Kalahari Copper Belt footprint to 990.93 km² from 1,283 km². The renewal is administrative—a necessary gate-pass for an early-stage explorer—but does not advance the company's exploration program or de-risk its prospectivity.

Investment case

Licence renewal removes near-term regulatory risk and preserves access to the Sweet Thorn Pan prospect, which the CEO notes sits on a known mineralised contact being mined by nearby MMG Khoemacau operations. However, renewal alone does not materially change Serval's investment case: the company remains pre-drill on its core Botswana asset and must still execute exploration work to define a resource.
